ACPD PUBLIC SAFETY CIVILIAN ACADEMY GRADUATION
Angelina-Gianna-Jorge Restrepo, Chief of the Atlantic City Police Department James A. Sarkos & AC Public Safety Director Sean Riggin.
Atlantic City POLICE Public Safety CIVILIAN Academy CLASS:
A Bridge Between the Community and Law Enforcement
On November 5, 2025, I had the honor of participating in a special visit to the Atlantic City Public Safety Building as part of the Civilian Public Safety Academy. The experience was inspiring and enriching, and it filled me with pride to be part of a program that aims to strengthen collaboration between residents and law enforcement in our city.
We were warmly welcomed by Police Chief James A. Sarkos, who expressed his satisfaction with the growing participation of residents in the academy. He assured us that more and more residents of Atlantic City are interested in learning firsthand about the work of the officers who protect our community, and he promised to attend our graduation ceremony.
The academy, which began on September 24 and will conclude on November 19, offers adult residents the opportunity to visit different police departments and units, such as the CRU/NCO Unit, SWAT, Forensic Office, Ambulance Services, Emergency Communications, Fire Department, Internal Affairs, Vice, and Gangs. During these sessions, participants can tour facilities, attend demonstrations, and learn from specialized officers.
One of the most significant moments of this visit was the guided tour led by Sergeant Law, who has 18 years of experience with the Atlantic City Police. He showed us the cutting-edge technology they use to ensure our safety. From facial recognition and license plate reading to gunshot detection and real-time tracking, it was clear that Atlantic City has highly trained officers equipped with state-of-the-art tools. Sergeant Law assured us that any criminal attempting to harm our city would be arrested within …., thanks to the efficiency of these advanced surveillance systems.
Beyond the operations and technology, the visit reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to the community. The academy not only informs but also aims to strengthen bonds of respect and collaboration between residents and law enforcement, fostering an environment of mutual trust.
The graduation ceremony will be held on November 24,
PLEASE sign up for the next session, because the safety of Atlantic City begins with active community participation.
As a student in this academy, I can say that this experience has been invaluable. I hope that in 2026 more residents will join this initiative—to learn, support, and work alongside the various departments and officers who serve our city with dignity and professionalism every day.
Congratulations to all participants and thank you to the authorities for this program that strengthens our community!
